Frederick George and Margaret Mildred BULLER (née ANSON).
1901 census...Aged 9, he was at The Rectory, Danes Road, Sth Manchester with his father Frederick G. BULLER [45], priest, born Dorchester; his mother Margaret M. [45] born London and sister Winifred M [3] born East Stoke, Dorset. 1911 census...Aged 20, an undergraduate at Trinity College Oxford, he was living at Thundridge Vicarage, Ware with hi suncle and aunt, John and Caroline Pelham. His parents were at Oakford Rectory, Bampton, Devon with his sister Winifred. His mother had born 5 children but one had died |

His entry in De Ruvigny's Roll of Honour reads:- "Frederick Derick Edwin BULLER, Volunteer, East African Mounted Rifles, British East Africa. 3rd son of Rev George Buller, rector of Oakford, Devon by his wife Margaret Mildred dau of Sir John William Anson. Born Burrough Green, Cambs 14-7-1891, educated Eton and Trinity College, Oxford. On going down from Oxford in 1913 he brought a large farm in British East Africa, and on the outbreak of the European war immediately volunteered his services and Joined the Kings Mounted Rifles. He was killed in the fighting on 25th Sept 1914 in the Ingito hills between the Magadi railway and the frontier. It appears that a German force of about 35 Europeans and 150 natives, with 2 maxim guns, attacked a body of the East African Mounted Rifles (C squadron) only 30 in number, commanded by Capt Chapman. After one hours severe fighting in thick bush country the enemy were repulsed, and retired hastily towards Longido. At Eton Buller rowed in his house fours, and at Oxford he stroked the winning trail eight in his first year. He was unm." |
